Peace of mind. Many people have called Jökulsárlón the Jewel of Iceland… and if you have visited it’s glacial lagoon or diamond beach you know of its beauty. After a 20 year private land dispute the area has finally been purchased & placed under environmental protection by the Icelandic government & added to the Vatnajökull national park. Ive traveled here almost a decade & have seen the visitation swell.. but have always been able to walk along the shoreline & find a peaceful spot all to myself. Regardless of how you feel about tourism, protecting this natural wonder is a step in the right direction to educate those that visit & yearn to know more.

It’s never easy.. far from perfect… but has always been so worth it. The decision to get married at 21 was one of the most terrifying things I’ve done. Probably because I knew I could barely provide for myself let alone someone else & I seriously questioned what I had to offer. I remember asking her dad for permission & just feeling so incompetent… let’s just say I wasn’t the most eligible bachelor at the time. A recent college dropout with no job, no career, who lived mostly out of his small Toyota truck & used their house as a grocery store. The situation was far from ideal… laughable actually. I’ve realized that the world will tell you to wait till everything’s perfect… “only bring someone into your life when you have the painted the picture you want” they would tell me. I’ve always wondered what room that leaves for collaboration. For growth. Any true commitment that doesn’t require a leap from what we are comfortable with, and the inevitable struggle that comes with it is something I would question. . . Thank You for 10 amazing years @Brea_face we have come a long way from living in a barn together 🙂 I love you. #HappyAnniversary

It’s often the unplanned experience that really leaves a mark on you. I visited the Italian Dolomites years ago planning to shoot its stellar vertical mountains but bad weather sent us looking for something else. I had spent so much time researching alpine hikes & camping that I hadn’t made a backup plan. Quick roadside research showed a lake with stellar views and a decent weather window just hours away…so we decided to hide there for a few days. Turned out it was the very last days of the season and soon snowpack would set in, the road would become impassible & the lake would freeze over. Being so close to winter I envisioned freezing conditions, but instead it felt as warm as a California summer. The water however was a chilly glacial temperature right around 35 degrees. We were the only people in the historic hotel on the lakes edge. The owner would tell us stories of how the valley was formed, about the old films that were shot here & stress that we had to try his homemade pasta. I think we impressed him with our ability to brave the cold water.. or maybe he just felt sorry for us. This is a few of my favorite photos. Ps – the first photo is of me.. and yes I survived 😉

Cold & extremely wet.. that’s the best way to describe it. I can’t even count the amount of times I slipped and fell In mud. Moisture would freeze before you could wipe it off. The sound of the water deafening any chance of talking or hearing really anything else… and your eyes are constantly fixed on the sky waiting for any change of color. I love these intimate experiences where all your senses are demanded & seem to be on high alert. This is maybe the most honest portrait of what’s it’s like to be in the moment shooting. . . @_ryanhill_ @icelandair @geysircarrental

A Smoky sunrise in the foothills of Mt. Hood. I spent 3 days here last month living in the upper loft. An A-frame is beautiful to look at but far better to experience from the inside out. I think it’s the simplicity of the structure in a world of over- complicated homes and most importantly the location that usually makes us gravitate to these dwellings.
